Bio
Heather Sherburn is a retired CA educational leader with over 34 years of experience as a teacher, early reading specialist, director of teacher training, principal, and Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Technology, culminating with 7 years as the Assistant Superintendent of a K-12 district experiencing growth from 2500 to 7300 students during her tenure. She has spent most of her career working in Title I schools primarily serving students from high crime, high poverty and immigrant backgrounds. As principal, she led two elementary schools to 100+ API point gains in a single year. With the transition to district office, she led district wide curriculum adoptions for all content areas, K-12 professional development, opened 3 new school libraries, created 8 school-based Makerspaces, and developed new district benchmark assessments among other things. As Assistant Superintendent, part of her responsibility included supervision of technology for a high tech school district. In addition to oversight of technology purchases, policies, security and sustainability, she created a training academy for intentionally-designed, technology-infused instructional practices, led digital curriculum adoption, and implemented 1:1 devices for all TK-12 students.
