Developer Fees

Developer fees are one-time impact charges collected by school districts at the time a building permit is issued, specifically when new construction adds 500 square feet or more of enclosed space. Unlike taxes, these fees are statutory charges authorized under the California Education Code and Government Code. Their primary purpose is to ensure that new residential and commercial developments contribute to the cost of additional school facilities needed to accommodate growth in the community.
